Carriage House

 

 

For the Cape Cod Carriage House, the client was looking to extend their summer cottage to accommodate guests during the summer season.    For large parts of the year, the house is not overcrowded, however when her two children visit with all of their grandchildren the house is overrun.  Rather than add on to the existing house, it was proposed that we build a standalone unit that could host one family. 

 

The Carriage House could be left shut when not used, thus reducing the use of additional energy.  The layout is also extremely efficient with little wasted space, thus avoiding adding extensive corridor to the original house.  Finally as the house sits in the Sandwich historical district, the design needed to respect the heritage of the area, while responding to modern tastes of the client.
